With an unpaid
honorary position, the Council members are dedicated to
serving our people and nation.
Membership of the ACDPU is an unpaid honorary position
and is considered an honor and a service for the nation
and the people.
Because the ACDPU commissions representatives who lead
their region and professions, by its very nature the
ACDPU is equipped with the capacity and basis for realizing
the goal of unification.
In 'the Code of Conduct for ACDPU Membership', member
objectives and activities should comply with the following:
First, dedication to the nation and people by highlighting
our long standing history and pride as a nation of rich
culture.
Second, laying the groundwork for pan-national consensus
by shaping democratic and non-partisan national opinion
on unification.
Third, research and expertise in order to make recommendations
and provide opinions on unification policy.
Fourth, as a major prerequisite for peaceful unification,
make every effort to achieve national harmony and reconciliation
between the South and the North.
In order to make recommendations,
provide consultation and set the stage for unification,
the Council members should voluntarily take part in
activities individually or as a group at their district
consultative conference level.
Once appointed, Council members should participate
in regular monthly or bimonthly meetings held by his/her
affiliated city, county or district council.
Also, members may participate in all the council meetings
or activities and express their opinions at those meetings.
The Plenary Conference and the Regional Conference are
held every two years at the central and local council
level. Annual briefing sessions on current unification
developments are held at the metropolitan city, provinces
and local council level. The local councils
plan and implement various activities to promote national
harmony and lay the foundation for unification. Also
a yearly research meeting is held to foster dialogue
on unification.
Members may also take part in the councils organized
by their fields of expertise. Members who possess knowledge
on unification may participate on the Steering Committee,
the Standing Committee, and each Subcommittee. Through
each committee and subcommittee, members help determine
necessary topics for consultation and discussion. They
may offer their opinions to the Secretariat of the ACDPU,
on the direction that the government should steer its
policy toward the North and current major political
issues between the South and the North.
At the district consultative council level, the members
engage in various activities including preparatory actions
and educating future generations about unification,
creating a unification culture and conducting a series
of good deeds and social works.
Activities at the district consultative council with
the participation of council members are as follow;
First, there are monthly, bimonthly or quarterly meetings
by each consultative council. In these meetings, through
the discussion of current issues on South-North relations
or suggested topics, they collect various opinions and
coordinate the direction for the next consultative councils
and activities.
As part of the preparatory action for unification,
they put forth their best efforts to create an atmosphere
for national agreement and consensus on unification
policy. For that purpose, they hold lectures and briefings
on South-North relations, the current situation of the
North and the North's strategy against the South. They
also hold discussions with local residents and formulate
public opinion polls. Through these and other activities,
they promote national harmony among the people in the
South as well.
To prepare future generations for unification, the
ACDPU hosts forums and dialogues on unification for
university students as well as presentations on Northern
policy to middle and high school students, etc. They
also hold various events including essay contests or
drawing contests, folklore events and song contests
to develop Unification culture.
In addition to promoting national harmony as a prerequisite
for unification, they carry out social services and
juvenile guidance
